Les Grands Sables, Le Pouldu
The main beach of the area, and the easiest with toddlers. A lovely fine-sand beach, tucked into the cliffs and protected from the waves. It has lifeguards in July and August from 1 pm to 7 pm, a first-aid post, and the Blue Flag label.
In August, come in the morning or late afternoon, when the light is at its best.
Kerfany-les-Pins
A calm sandy beach at the mouth of the Bélon river, sheltered from the prevailing winds. Also lifeguarded in July and August from 1 pm to 7 pm, Blue Flag, with parking, first-aid post, toilets and a children's beach club in summer. Sailing, kayaks and paddleboards can be hired nearby.
For walkers, the coastal path leads to the Pointe de Kerfany, with views over the Bélon estuary and Port-Manec'h opposite.

Bellangenêt, Le Pouldu
One of the three main beaches of Le Pouldu, between Les Grands Sables and Le Kérou. In summer, the local authority runs meet-ups here for families with children aged 0 to 6: games, stories, walks. The programme changes every year.
Le Kérou, for older children
The surfers' beach, with a surf school next door. More exposed to the waves: perfect for a first lesson with confident swimmers or teenagers, less so for paddling with a baby.
The coves, on foot from the house
The coastal path runs past the Lodge. A few minutes' walk takes you down to almost private coves that appear at low tide: crabs, periwinkles, rock pools, driftwood dens. There are no lifeguards: they are for playing and rock pooling, not for swimming far out. Our rock pooling guide explains the good habits.
And on the Île de Groix
For a day trip, the beaches of Port-Lay and Moustéro are calm and sheltered, and Groix's own Grands Sables beach is a geological curiosity. Everything is in our Groix guide.
Our tips as parents
- Check the tide before you go (times on maree.shom.fr): at high tide, some beaches shrink a lot
- Swim when the lifeguards are on duty and follow the flags at the lifeguard post
- The wind is deceptive: you don't feel the sun, but it burns. Hat, UV T-shirt, sun cream
- The water is cool, around 18 °C in high summer: a shorty wetsuit makes all the difference for children who feel the cold
Lifeguard hours and facilities are those published by the tourist office and may change from year to year. Check on site or with the town hall.
